A Roman province which embraced the western parts of the peninsula, Asia Minor, including Mysia, Lydia, Caria, and a great part of Phrygia; called proconsular to distinguish it from the continent of the same name. Some of its inhabitants were present at Pentecost (Acts 2), and its evangelization took place during Saint Paul's third journey, when "all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord, both. Jews and Gentiles" (Acts 19).
