(630-680) Queen, born England; died Chelles, France. A slave in the household of Erchinoald, mayor of the palace of Neustria, Clovis II, attracted by her beauty and prudence, married her in 649. As regent for her son, Clothaire III, she abolished trade in Christian slaves, suppressed simony, and established hospitals and numerous monasteries.
