Capital of County Down. Oldest town in Ulster. Once the residence of the Irish kings. A see was founded here, c.440,by Saint Patrick. The priory of the Austin Canons was established by Saint Malachy in the 12th century. Downpatrick is the burial place of Saint Patrick, Saint Columba, and Saint Brigid.
