Founded as the Prefecture Apostolic of Orange River, Orange Free State, Union of South Africa on June 20, 1885. Elevated to the Vicariate Apostolic of Orange River on May 2, 1898 and entrusted to the Oblates of Saint Francis of Sales of Troyes. Name changed to the Vicariate Apostolic of Keimoes on July 9, 1940. Elevated to the diocese of Keimoes on January 11, 1951. Name changed to the diocese of Keimoes-Upington on February 8, 1985.
