Empress, wife of Saint Henry II, of Germany; died 1040. The daughter of the count of Luxemburg, she married Henry in 999. They founded and endowed the See of Bamberg, 1017. After Henry's death, 1025, she retired to the convent of Kaufungen which she had founded. She is represented holding her cloak to the sun's rays, and walking with bare feet over red-hot irons.
