Crown colony of the British Empire, in the South Atlantic, about 300 miles east of the Strait of Magellan, administered by a governor assisted by an executive and a legislative council. Missions were established there by the Salesian Fathers, the islands ecclesiastically belonging to the Prefecture Apostolic of Southern Patagonia. The Prefecture Apostolic of Falkland Islands was erected on January 10, 1952.
