Priest and scholar, born Ballyfallon, County Meath, Ireland, 1863; died Los Angeles, California, 1899. Ordained, 1888, he taught Irish at Maynooth College. As editor of the "Gaelic Journal" and one of the founders of the Gaelic League, he played a leading part in the movement to save the Irish language from extinction, especially through a valuable series of "Simple Lessons in Irish."
