Confessor, Archbishop of York (625-33); died Rochester, England, 644. A Roman monk, he was sent by Saint Gregory with Saint Mellitus to assist Saint Augustine in Britain, 601. He was consecrated bishop by Saint Justus, and accompanied Ethelburga to the court of the pagan king Edwin, whom he converted. He established the See of York, and was made archbishop there.
