The town of Iconium was situated in the south of the province of Galatia in Asia Minor. Paul established a church in Iconium on his first missionary journey and revisited the town on several occasions (Acts 14:1; Acts 14:21; Acts 16:6; Acts 18:23). Timothy, who accompanied Paul on some of his journeys, was well known in Iconium and was an eye-witness of some of the persecutions Paul suffered there (Acts 14:1-6; Acts 16:1-2; 2 Timothy 3:10-11).
