HEAVINESS . The Eng. word ‘heaviness’ is used in AV [Note: Authorized Version.] in the sense of ‘grief,’ and in no other sense. Thus Proverbs 10:1 ‘A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.’ Compare Coverdale’s tr. [Note: translate or translation.] of Psalms 30:5 ‘hevynesse maye well endure for a night, but joye commeth in the mornynge,’ whence the Prayer Bk. version ‘heaviness may endure for a night.’
