Zoar (zô'ar), smallness. Genesis 19:22-23; Genesis 19:30. One of the cities of Canaan. Its earlier name was Bela. Genesis 14:2; Genesis 14:8. In the general destruction of the cities of the plain, Zoar was spared to afford shelter to Lot. It was one of the landmarks which Moses saw from Pisgah, Deuteronomy 34:3, and it appears to have been known in the time of Isaiah, Isaiah 15:5, and Jeremiah. Jeremiah 48:34.
