Lacroix (De Chevrieres), Jean Baptiste de a French prelate, belonged at first to the order of the Knights of Malta, was afterwards abbot of Gimont, in the diocese of Auch, and embarked in 1683 for Canada, to preach to the Indians. He was consecrated bishop of Quebec while on a visit to Paris in 1688. He returned soon afterwards to Canada, where he built a hospital, in which he died, December 26, 1727. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
