Adalardus, a monk of Biandenburg, at Ghent, flourished at the beginning of the .11th century. At the request of St. Elphegus, archbishop of Canterbury, he composed an Office for the Festival of St. Dunstan. As this work is dedicated to St. Elphegus, it was probably written before 1012, the year of his martyrdom. This' work is found in many MSS., and bears sometimes the title of The Life of St. Dunstan. The epistle dedicatory is contained in Wharton's Anglia Sacra, ii, 148.

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
