He graduated from Brown University in 1815; spent two years in Andover Theological Seminary; was tutor in Brown University in 1818 and 1819; was ordained deacon September 2, 1819, and presbyter August 4, 1820. He was, professor of mathematics in Brown University from 1819 to 1824; president of Charleston College, S.C., from 1824 to 1826; of Geneva College, N.Y., from 1826 to 1828; of Charleston College again from 1828 to 1836; chaplain and professor of ethics at U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., from 1838 to 1840, and died at Pendleton, S.C., October 25, 1841. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
