Adolph, Gottlob, a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born Oct. 30, 1685, at Nieder- Wiese, in Upper Lusatia. He studied at Leipsic; was in 1720 appointed pastor at Gross-Hennersdorf, near Zittau; in 1726 deacon at Hirschberg; and in- 1737 archdeacon there. He died Aug. 1, 1745, while in his pulpit. struck by. lightning. He wrote, Dis.puatio de Psalmnis Filiorum Korah (Lips. 1706).He is also the author of a number of hymns. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
