In this language, which is spoken in Perni, a Jesuit, Ludovico Bertonio, as early as the year 1612, wrote the history of the life of Christ. Nearly the whole New Test. was translated from the Vulgate into Aimara in 1827 by Dr. Pazos Kanki. This work was conducted under the superintendence of Mr. Thomson, and with the sanction of the British and Foreign Bible Society. Of this translation the gospel of St. Luke, with the Spanish version in parallel columns was issued in 1832 by the British and Foreign Bible Society for the inhabitants of Bolivia. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
