Ajala Martin Perez De, a Spanish prelate, was born in the diocese of Carthagena in 1504. He first taught grammar in order to support his family. He was sent by Charles V as theologian to the Council of Trent, and. obtained successively two bishoprics and finally the archbishopric of Valence. He died in 1566. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
