Akuman in Persian mythology, is the first evil spirit created by Ahriman. He is the most frightful of all the evil spirits, is poisonous, and plagues good people. The Prince of Darkness created seven such monsters, and set them against the seven Amshaspands. Rustan, a Persian, fought seven days and nights with Akuman. Rustan was thrown into the sea by Akuman, but rose again andc overcame the monster.

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
