Alberti, Valentin, a Lutheran theologian, was born at Lehna, in Silesia, Dec. 15,1635. He studied at Leipsic, where he also lectured in the philosophical and theological faculty. In 1678 he was promoted as doctor of theology. He died at Leipsic, Sept. 19, 1697. His writings are very numerous. His doctrinal position was that of the orthodox Lutheran Church, and. from that point he wrote alike against Pietism and Roman Catholicism. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
