Allin, Edmund a Christian martyr, was a miller, dwelling in the parish of Frittenden, Kent, England. He read and explained the Scriptures to his friends, and in this way was the means of bringing many souls: to Christ. His course was soon found out by some popish priests, and he was arrested, examined, and cast into prison, where he suffered miserable torments. He was afterwards burned at Maidstone, in 1557. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
