Ar'nan (Heb. Arnan', אִרנָן, nimble; Sept. Ο᾿ρνά), the great-grandson of Zerubbabel (1Ch 3:21). He is probably the same with Christ's maternal ancestor Joanna, in Lu 3:27 (see Strong's Harmony and Exposition, p. 17). B.C. considerably post 536.

He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
