Athanasius (Junior)
or CELETES, surnamed HERNIOSUS, was bishop of Alexandria from about A.D. 490 to 497, and was esteemed a good Biblical scholar, an active bishop, and a devout man. He is supposed to be the author of several works ascribed to Athanasius the Great, particularly the Sacrae Scripturae Synopsis; Quaestiones et Responsiones ad Antiochunm; two tracts, De Incarnatione Verbi Dei; Syntagnma Doctrinsa ad Clericos et Laicos; de Virginitate sive Ascesi. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
