Atto (Acton, Or Hatton)
an Italian prelate, who was made in 945 bishop OF VERCELLT, in Piedmont, and died about the year 960, is the author of Satuta Ecclesice Vercellensis, Collectio .Canonum: — De Pressuris Ecclesiasticis:- Polypticus (πολύπτυχος, so called from its various contents); Commentary on Paul's Epistles Letters and Sermons. .Some of these writings were published by D'Achery in his Spicilegium; a complete edition was published by count Buronti del Signore (Vercelli, 1768, 2 vols. fol.). John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
