Auerbach, David, a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born at Limehna, Sept. 2,1599. He studied at Leipsic and Wittenberg, was in 1624 bachelor of theology, and in 1639 professor extraordinary. In 1640, when he was called as superintendent to Borna, he received the degree of doctor of divinity, and he died April 14,:1647. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
