Ba'alis (Hebrews Baalis', בִּעֲלַיס, prob. for בֶּןאּעֲלַיס, son of exultation; Sept. Βελισά v. r. Βελεισσά, and even Βασίλισσα; Vulg. Baalis), king of the Ammonites about the time of the Babylonian captivity, whom Johanan and his fellow-generals reported to Gedaliah, the viceroy, as having sent Ishmael to assassinate him (Jeremiah xl, 14). B.C. 587. Some MSS. have Baalim (בִּעֲלַים), and so Josephus (Βααλείμ, Ant. 10:9, 3).
