Baber, James a Presbyterian minister, was born in Hanover County, Va., July 25, 1794.. He was educated at Hampden Sidney College, Va., and spent three years at the Associate Reformed Seminary. N. Y. In 1819 he entered Princeton Theological Seminary, where he spent two years. He was licensed as a minister in 1821, and his ministry extended over a large part of the states of Maryland and Virginia. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
