Baccanarists a society in the Church of Rome, founded in Italy by one Baccanari after the suppression of the Jesuits in 1773. Its object was to restore the order under a new name and form. Pius VI favored the organization, and it spread into Austria, Holland, and England. In 1814 its members were united with the re-established order of Jesuits, SEE JESUITS.

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
