Barstow, George a Congregational minister, was born in Duxbury, Mass., in 1770. He graduated at Brown University in 1801; was ordained pastor of the Church in Hanson, Mass., Jan. 26, 1803; and died Feb. 11, 1821. See Sprague, Annals of the Amer. Pulpit, i, 646.

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
