Bennet, William Crosby a minister of the German Reformed Church, was born on Long Island, N. Y., April 14, 1804. He came to Pennsylvania when quite young; studied at York, Pa., and was ordained in 1832, and sent as missionary to the Carolinas. After laboring there successfully for five years, he returned to the North, and exercised his ministry in several fields in Pennsylvania, principally in Cumberland County. He died in 1870. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
