Bernard a French monk and traveller, originally OF CHAMPAGNE, lived in the latter half of the 9th century. He made, between the years 858 and 867, a voyage to Palestine, of which he gave a concise, interesting, and well-written history, which is preserved among the MSS. in the Library of St. Remy at Rheims, and, was printed by Mabillon in the Acta Sanct. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
