Binns, Joseph a minister of the Society of Friends, was born in London in 1774. In early life he was exposed to many temptations, and yielded at times to their influence. During the greater part of his life humility and love were conspicuous in his demeanor. While he had many peculiarities, and some faults, there is good reason to believe that he sought to "adorn the doctrine of our Saviour in all things." He died Feb. 19, 1836. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
