Bolivar, Gregorio De, a Spanish missionary and publicist, lived in the early half of the 17th century. He belonged to the order of Saint Francis of the Observants. For twenty-five years he preached the Gospel to the people of Mexico. of Peru, and of several other parts of America, where European civilization had not penetrated. He was also, it is said, versed in medical science. He wrote Memorial de Arbitrios pard la Reparacion de Espana (Madrid, 1626): — also an account of his travels, which has not been published. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
