a Baptist minister, was born in Connecticut, Feb. 2, 1793, and graduated from the Newton Theological Institution in 1832.; He was ordained soon after, and for a time was pastor of the Church at Southbridge, Mass. Subsequently, he removed to Ohio, in which state he was pastor successively of churches in Granville, Athens, and Jackson. He died in the last place, April 2, 1840. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
