Bolton, Samuel an English Puritan divine, was born in 1606, and educated at Cambridge. He became master of Christ College, Cambridge, in 1645, and vice- chancellor of the university in 1651. He died in October, 1654. He was the author of, True Bounds of Christian Freedom (1643): — A Guard of the Tree of Life (1647): — The Arraignment of Error (1646): — and other works. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
