Brancato, Francesco an Italian missionary, arrived in China in 1637, and there preached the Gospel with zeal until 1665. Protected by the magistrates, he constructed forty-five oratorios and more than ninety churches. He died at Canton in 1671. He wrote several works in the Chinese language, for which see Hoefer, Nouv. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
