Bretonneau, Francois a French theologian, was born in Touraine, December 31, 1660. He became a Jesuit, and for thirty-four years devoted himself to preaching. He died at Paris, May 29, 1741. He wrote, Reflexions Chretiennes pour les jeunes' Gens qui entrent dans le Monde (Paris, 1708): — Sermons, Pandegy iques et Discours sui les Mystres (ibid. 1743, published by P. Berruyer). John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
