a Baptist minister, was born at Bennington,Vermont, September 17, 1790. He was ordained October 17, 1821, as pastor of the Church at Smithfield, N.Y., where he remained for more than eight years. His second pastorate was with the Church at Augusta, Oneida County, where he had a most fruitful ministry for fifteen years. He was pastor of six different churches between the years 1830 and 1850. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
