Brus, Anton a Bohemian prelate, was born at Muglitz, in Moravia, February 13, 1518. He studied at Prague, where he also received holy orders. In the war against the Turks, 1542-45, he was Austrian chaplain. In 1558 the emperor, Ferdinand I, made him bishop of Vienna, and in 1562 he was raised to the archepiscopal see of Prague. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
