Burkhead, Lingurn Skinmore a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was born in Davidson County, S.C. In 1849 he was admitted into the North Carolina Conference, and served as pastor and presiding elder until his death, December 2, 1887. Five times he was a member of the General Conference of his church, and a delegate to the OEcumenical Conference of 1881. See Minutes of Annual Conferences of the M.E. Church, South, 1887, page 133.

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
