a Congregational minister, was born in Massachusetts in 1798.. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1822, and from Andover Theological Seminary in 1825 was ordained June 21, 1826; was, pastor at Calais, Maine, from 1828 to 1834; stated supply of the Presbyterian Church at Princeton, Illinois, from 1849 to 1853, and died there, April 23, 1857. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
