Cochin, Charles Nicolas (1)
a French designer and engraver, was born in Paris in 1688, and studied painting until he was nineteen, when he devoted himself to engraving. The following are some of his principal plates: The Meeting of Jacob and Esau; Jacob and Laban; Jacob Pursued by Laban; Rebekah with the Servant of Abr'ham; The Trinity and the Assumption; The Lame Man Cured. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
