Coli, Giovanni an Italian painter, was born at Lucca in 1634, and studied under Pietro da Cortona. Some of his works are in the churches of Rome. The most celebrated were the frescos in the tribune of the Church of San Martino, in Lucca. The whole cloister of the monastery of the Carmelites was painted by him. He died in 1681. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
