Colombel, Nicolas a French painter, was born at Sotteville, near Rouen in 1646, studied under Lesueur, and subsequently visited Rome for improvement. He was elected professor of the Royal Academy of Paris in 1705. Among his best productions, at Versailles, are Moses Saved by Pharaoh's Daughter and Moses Defending the Daughters of Jethro. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
