Conzie, Francois de a French prelate, brother of the following, was born at Poncin, in Bugey, March 18, 1736. He was first grand-vicar, then bishop of St. Omer, and, in 1774, became archbishop of Tours. As deputy of the clergy to the states- general of 1789, he protested against the reunion of the three orders, resigned in 1791, and went to Aix-la-Chapelle. He afterwards wrote against the civil constitution of the clergy, and. published, in June 1791, a mandate which was condemned, in July of the same year, by the tribunal of Tours, to be torn and burned by the hand of the executioner. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
