Corbinian, Saint born at Chartres in 680, was for fourteen years a hermit, and then went to Rome, where the pope, Gregory II, consecrated him bishop. He returned to his solitude, and afterwards traveled along the Danube and the Isar to preach. Duke Theodo II of Bavaria appointed him first bishop of Freising. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
