Corte, Cesare an Italian painter, the son and scholar of Valerio, was born at Genoa in 1550. His; best historical works are in that city. In San Pietro is his picture of St. Peter at the Feet of the Virgin. In San Francesco is an altar-piece, representing Mary Magdalene; and in Santa Maria del Carmina are two pictures by him, of St. Simeon and St. Francis. He died in 1613. See Spooner, Biog. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
