He graduated from Yale College in 1840, spent one year studying law, graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1844, served as pastor or stated supply at various places in Indiana, Illinois, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and California, spent several years in foreign travel, became pastor at San Diego, California, in 1879, and died there, February 26, 1885. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
