Dance, Matthew Maze a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, January 29, 1790. He was converted about 1807; spent the next five years in teaching and study; entered the Virginia Conference in 1812, and was appointed to the Bertie Circuit; in 1814 became private secretary to bishop Asbury; located in 1822, settled in Prince Edward County, and died there, March 8, 1873. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
