Darkin, Charles an English Baptist minister, was born about 1800. He was converted at the age of seventeen; joined Dr. Cox's Church, Mare Street, Hackey; entered Stepney College; became pastor at Woodstock, Oxfordshire, in June 1826; and in 1841 removed to Cirencester, where he died in 1853. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
