Davies, Jacob an English Baptist minister, was born at Newtown, Montgomeryshire, Wales, February 22, 1816. He was converted and baptized at the age of seventeen, and soon afterwards began to preach. In 1840 he entered Bradford College; and in 1844 was sent out to Ceylon by the Baptist Missionary Society; in 1847 his health failed, but he continued to labor as he had strength till his death, at Colombo, in April 1849. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
